Fire Marshal's Office
- Fire Codes as in any city is a matter of interpretation. The fire department is most concerned whether any project is constructed with safety in the plan. People safety is considered when we look at exit paths and alarm systems. Property safety is calculated as we promote fire sprinklers. Construction plans are submitted to the division for review of fire safety issues through the Building Code Office. Contractors, construction planners or people who just would like to know call each day with code questions.
- Fire Investigations are conducted to reach a determination as to the cause of each fire that occurs in Bedford. There are investigators that have completed courses in Fire Cause Determination on each shift and investigators assigned to the fire marshal’s office through the week. We also have an ATF trained accelerant dog that assists not only Bedford, but will assist with any investigations, to which she is called.
- Fire Safety education has traditionally been directed toward the school children. We are aware that others need the education also so we offer a Citizens Fire Academy. Another often requested program is training in work place safety such as fire extinguisher training or bomb threats. The most effective tool in education of the school children is our clown program that delivers fire safety messages with a smidge of makeup and a splat of fire safety reality.
