Open House October 14, 2006

On Saturday, October 14, 2006, the Department held its second Annual Open House. The public was invited to attend and learn about fire prevention and safety through various exhibits and demonstrations. The exhibits and demonstrations this year included the following:

Scooter the Clown (also known as Lt. Scott Brown) and his trusty sound man and Emergency Drills In The Home (EDITH) assistant, Firefighter, Mark Mertens.

Lt. Joey Lankford and his specially trained arson dogs, Rio and Billy

PHI, air medical helicopter company, provided a helicopter and flight crew

Lt. Lance James and his fellow firefighters on B-shift (Engineer Greg Qualls, Firefighter Josh Brown, Firefighter II John Henrichsen and Firefighter II Cliff Weaver) and Engineer Ron Butler demonstrating extrication techniques.

Firefighter Josh Starkey manned the firefighter bunker gear “suit up” demonstration.

Battalion Chief James Richardson who manned the Fire Extinguisher training pit

B-shift personnel and off duty personnel who helped provide tours of the Fire Safety House, Ambulance and Fire Truck , manned the Fire Hose spray for the kids and demonstrated the use of Thermal Imaging.

The groups involved with the Open House this year that provided additional information to the public and support on various demonstrations or exhibits as well as dispensed drinks and cooked the hot dogs included:

Bedford Professional Firefighters Association & their family members

Bedford Dispatchers

Citizen’s Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Citizen’s Fire Academy Alumni Association

Bedford Amateur Radio Club
