The Office of Emergency Management is charged with carrying out a comprehensive all-hazard emergency management program for the City of Bedford. A comprehensive emergency management program includes pre and post-disaster mitigation of known hazards to reduce their impact; preparedness activities, such as emergency planning, training, and exercises; provisions for effective response to emergency situations; and recovery programs for major disasters. Chapter 418 of the Texas Government Code lays out an extensive set of specific responsibilities.

 

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) coordinates the activities of volunteer, public and private agencies in all phases of emergency management (Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation) for the City of Bedford. We plan and prepare for emergencies, educate the public about preparedness, coordinate emergency response and recovery, and collect and disseminate emergency information. We develop plans and exercises, and coordinate emergency management training for the City of Bedford staff, volunteer response groups, (CERT and BARC) and partner agencies. The OEM obtains assistance and resources to accomplish their mission from federal, state, local and private agencies.

 

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is charged with assuring timely and adequate public warning of potential or imminent disaster events, and providing disaster-related safety information to the public and media. We are available on a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week basis.

 

The OEM also assists city, state, and federal agencies with disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery programs. The OEM also provides the public and media organizations with accurate and timely information regarding emergency management and preparedness programs and issues in the City of Bedford.
